Her most successful film during this time was in 3 Women, directed by Altman. She received praise from critics, with many noting her extraordinary performance.

However, her most iconic role was as Wendy Torrance in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining in 1980. While her performance was not well-received at the film’s release, she garnered praise in later years.
