The American actor started his career back in the ’50s as a Compass Players member. He also joined the Cleveland Play House and would perform in several of their theater productions. He continued to perform on stage and would also garner much-deserved recognition on TV after landing a role on the TV adaptation of MASH. Here, he would play the role of Hawkeye Pierce and would be awarded five Emmy Awards for his performances.
