In 1985, Dr. Dre started his career as one of the members of World Class Wreckin’ Cru and found fame with the gangsta rap group N.W.A., which popularized explicit lyrics in hip hop, detailing the violence of street life. Dr. Dre received credit in the early ‘90s as a key figure in the popularization and crafting of West Coast G-funk, a subgenre of hip hop that was characterized by slow, heavy beats and a synthesizer foundation.

Apart from his musical acumen, Dr. Dre also ventured into founding companies such as Beats Electronics and Aftermath Entertainment, where he serves as the C.E.O. The latter company, a stylish headphone manufacturer, was founded in 2006 and was bought by Apple in 2014 for an astounding $3 billion, which was the biggest acquisition in its history. These investments have increased Dr. Dre’s net worth to $820 million today, and he became the third richest rapper in the world.
