Samuel Walker Shepard | Jessica Lange’s Son | Musician

Samuel Walker Shepard, Shepard and Lange’s youngest sibling, was born on June 14, 1987. Samuel is a guitarist who formed The Dust Busters, later renamed The Down Hill Strugglers, in 2008.

The Brooklyn-based band combines old-time songs, ballads, fiddle tunes, and jug band blues into every performance, filled with the old-time feeling and freewheeling high energy that characterized early string bands such as The Skillet Lickers, Dykes Magic City Trio, The Mississippi Sheiks, and J.E. Mai. They are influenced and inspired by the direct fusion of Scots-Irish and African music that occurred in Appalachia, the Western states, and the Deep South from colonial times until WWII. By preserving the music’s quality and originality. Samuel Walker, best known by his middle name, plays fiddle, banjo, guitar, and harmonica. To their credit, the band has performed at clubs like Club Passim and the Jalopy Theater, as well as festivals like the Brooklyn Folk Festival and the Clifftop Appalachian String Band Festival, and radio shows like WNYC 93.9fm’s Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour and Sound Check with John Schaefer.
